WORK07030 2022 Work Placement
This subject aims to provide the student with broader skills and knowledge of the working environment for a minimum of 12 weeks. Furthermore, it will allow the learner an opportunity to apply theoretical tourism and event management knowledge to practical situations and to enhance the student's knowledge and awareness of the working environment to allow students of the Institute to acquire professional experience in the Tourism and Event Management industry early in their careers.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Plan and prepare for the placement and actively participate in recruitment and interview practices.
Relate relevant theory to a work environment and develop a business report on the host company and a designated topic relating to the host company’s activities.
work co-operatively with people from different backgrounds/cultures thus promoting the value of team work in an organisation
Apply knowledge of child protection issues pertinent to the work environment.
Operate professionally and constructively within a multidisciplinary team environment within allocated responsibility demonstrating competence, leadership and autonomy.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Students research and evaluate the potential tourism employment market.
Students develop a set of job seeking tools (Cover letter, CV, Linkedin, Portfolio etc)
Students select and evaluate potential employees performance in role played interviews.
Students assess the potential for employment in a range of public and private tourism employers
Students reflect on individual performance in employment through daily log.
Students develop self critique through placement evaluation with employer and supervisor which is evaluated in work placement report

Work Placement Procedures:
The Institute's supervisor will take an active role in ensuring that all students will be successful in procuring work placements. The students will be encouraged to obtain their own placement and this will be subject to the Institute's supervisor being satisfied that the particular work placement meets the learning objectives.
The work placement co-ordinator who is responsible for helping students to secure a placement. Each student will also co-ordinate this block focusing on direct preparation for the workplace.
