WATR09003 2018 Integrated Management Systems
This module explores the issues involved in the integration of two or more stand-alone management systems, with the main focus on Environmental Management Systems (e.g. ISO 14001) and the integration with other management systems relating to Quality (ISO 9001), Health and Safety (ISO 45001), Energy (ISO 50001) or Asset Management (ISO 55001).
Key areas for integration include the context of the organisation, leadership, planning, risk assessment, training and awareness, communication, documentation, operational controls, emergency preparedness and response, performance evaluation and improvement. The module also addresses both Internal and External Auditing and the requirements of ISO 19011.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Apply the framework contained in ISO 14001 and ISO 14004 to the management of a water services sector operation.
Synthesise the core elements in establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a number of management systems, including management systems for Quality (ISO 9001), Health and Safety (ISO 45001), Energy (ISO 50001) and Asset Management (ISO 55001).
Apply the principles of auditing, prepare an audit programme and plan an internal audit.
Critically review the issues associated with the integrating of various management system standards, including the sequencing of integration within one site and standardization across many sites.
Critically review a water services operation for the purpose of introducing an integrated management system for two or more stand-alone management systems for that operation.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered using blended learning techniques. This will include online lectures (via Adobe Connect or similar), workshops and site visits augmented by independent learning and directed learning. This approach is expected to address student-learning needs. Moodle will be used to upload educational material (i.e. presentations and recordings of online lectures plus supplementary reading material) and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals). This blended approach (lectures and workshops) brings students together to facilitate group learning.
Module Assessment Strategies
This module is 50% Continuous Assessment and 50% Final Exam.
Assessment will consist of two MCQs in weeks 4 - 6 and 8 - 10.
A practical assignment (given in weeks 2 - 4) must be submitted in weeks 10 - 12.
Repeat Assessments
Repeat Continuous Assessment and/or Final Exam.
