TRON08011 2019 Electronics Level 8 Project
This is the Electronic Engineering Level 8 Project in which the student will demonstrate a synthesis of their knowledge applied to an open bounds problem.
The major deliverables will be a hardware/software implementation and a thesis with Literature Review, method, results, discussion and conclusion.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Develop a project proposal which shows evidence of project planning and definition of project scope.
Carry out a limited literature review that details the current state of the art within the scope of the project.
Justify a methodology for implementation based on concrete conclusions from the literature review.
Defend project/written submissions at interview.
Demonstrate software and/or hardware at appropriate stages of the year.
Communicate the outcomes of the project in written (Thesis) form.
Communicate with the primary supervisor in a manner consistent with the engineering profession.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Where a student is working in industry, they will be encouraged to do a work-based project. This project must comply with the learning outcomes and guidelines provided with this module.
Module Assessment Strategies
90-100% |
Exceptional level of attainment of learning outcomes · Outstanding and consistent work at or near publishable quality. · Demonstrates critical understanding of current knowledge drawing from relevant research papers and reviews. · Demonstrates an exceptional level of originality and creativity in thesis argument. · Opportunities evident to build on this work with further research. |
80-90% |
Outstanding range and depth of attainment of learning outcomes · Outstanding and consistent work which clearly shows a high level of originality and creativity and/or the ability to argue realistic solution proposals to novel or complex problems. · Evidence of wide range of reading which includes research papers and current ‘state of play’ of the subject area. · Clear evidence of a creative and highly credible thesis argument. |
70-80% |
Excellent attainment of virtually all learning outcomes · Excellent work which displays a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the subject area. · Evidence of critical evaluation of selected aspects of current knowledge. · Wide evidence of a cohesive and convincing thesis argument. |
60-70% |
Clear attainment of most of the learning outcomes · Shows good knowledge and understanding of the subject area with no major gaps or omissions. · Displays ability to analyse, interpret and organise information to produce a coherent accounts and/or propose solutions to relatively complex problems · Evidence of widespread reading beyond lecture notes and standard texts. |
50-60% |
Satisfactory attainment of learning outcomes · Work shows a satisfactory knowledge and understanding of the essentials of the subject area. · Evidence of ability to integrate information in a clear, well-structured account but lacking in breadth and depth, or with significant aspects omitted. · Thesis reasonably demonstrates a credible solution to limited, defined problems. · Evidence that other reading material was referenced outside standard texts and lecture notes. |
40-50% |
Acceptable attainment of learning outcomes · Thesis shows a general knowledge and understanding of the subject area but it is very limited in depth and breath. · Acceptable argument of a proposed solution to basic, familiar problems. · Little or no evidence of reading around the subject area. · Work displays deficiencies and omissions but not serious enough to warrant a fail. |
30-40% |
Deficient attainment of specific learning outcomes · Marginal failure. · Knowledge and understanding of the subject area are fragmented and in some cases showing a very basic understanding of the issues involved. · Clear evidence of at least one instance of a fundamental error or omission of a critical aspect of the proposed solution. · Unsatisfactory argument to propose an acceptable solution. |
20-30% |
Widespread evidence of deficient attainment in core learning outcomes · Very limited range of knowledge with many important gaps and omissions. · Shows incomplete understanding of major aspects of subject area with numerous errors of interpretation. · Clear evidence demonstrating a poor or loose thesis argument with little in-depth analysis or problem engagement attempted. |
10-20% |
Attempt at attaining learning outcomes markedly deficient in most of the learning outcomes · Shows only the most limited and fragmentary knowledge of the subject area with little or no understanding of the essential principles and concepts. · Very poor or loose work with no real attempt at any credible thesis argument. |
0-10% |
No satisfactory attainment of most/all of the learning outcomes. · Virtually devoid of any evidence of an attempt to understand the subject area or to propose a solution. |
Repeat Assessments
The student may be permitted to re-submit some part of the project for the repeat exam boards but where the project is deficient in many areas they will have to re-attend for the module.
