TOUR08029 2022 Tourism and Event Research Project 2
The aim of this module is to support each student to complete a research project on a selected topic. This research project is seen as an opportunity to consolidate the studies and learning achieved to date on the overall programme. Preparation for this subject will be undertaken during the module on Tourism Research Methods and Research Project 1. The topic selected, should be refined and written up as an annotated bibliography within the research proposal/introduction chapter and literature review chapter during Project 1. This will be fully investigated and in this module. The module consists of ongoing individual and group tutorial support. Each student will also be supported to develop an oral presentation on her/his work and be expected to present the research project to the research supervisors. Each individual student will complete the piece of work demonstration research methodology, analysis with conclusion and recommendations and must attend and present at peer reviewed workshops if requested.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Appraise and justify the use of the chosen research methodology previously outlined in research plan
Carry out a piece of focussed research incorporating the design of a data collection tool (e.g. questionnaire incorporating quantitative and qualitative research questions) analysis and discussion of results on the basis of completed research proposal
Work with a research project adviser to complete research project in accordance with research plan
Presentation of research report to research project committee
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module is largely selfdirected learning which is supervised by a research supervisor who will meet the student on a regular basis . As this module is at level 8 the allocated time per student is 30 min per week from the supervisor. The student is graded for student tutor mark which factors in the follwing components personal initiatives: Keeping appointment dates, Meeting agreed deadlines, Initiative, Student planning approach, Creativity.
Students will be required to demonstrate their research knowledge and competency through assessments of academic research and demonstrate the ability to evaluate and design a research tools for data collection (e.g. questionnaire incorporating quantitative and qualitative research questions).

Indicative Syllabus
Students will be required to write a research method chapter outlining and justifying the chosen research methods. (A copy of the final questionnaire will be included in appendices).
The methods used to analyse the data should be discussed and defended.
Carry out a piece of focussed research on the basis of completed research proposal/introduction.
Analyse and evaluate data produced in the study in context of the update and revised literature for RP1
Work with a research project adviser to complete research project. (Class discussion, reading, group activity, workshops).
