TOUR08025 2022 Globalisation and Tourism
This module aims to introduce students to the key ideas, concepts and issues of importance to the tourism industry in relation to globalisation. It will develop their capacities to think and act strategically with a focus on problem solving and decision making within the industry to maximise the positive impacts of globalisation with the tourism industry while mitigating the negative associate impacts of tourism.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Explain the connection between globalisation theory and tourism enterprises and the implications of this in relation to the concept and dynamics of the ‘North-South' debate.
Analyse the strategic role and practice of government involvement on tourism, planning policy and funding in relation to issuess associated with globalisation of tourism
Analyse the role and practice of governments involvement in Events planning, policy and funding in relation to issues associated with globalisation of events.
Formulate and defend their personal perspective on current global issues within tourism.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Students select and evaluate LDC tourism developemnt based on the key principles of globalisation theory.
Students examine the role of tourism developemnt in the North South divide in selected case study examples.
Students assess the role of key stakeholders in planning sustained responsible tourism and suggest how such roles could be expanded.
Module Assessment Strategies
Students will be required to develop a consultancy report to remedy problems with a set case study using the tools and techniques provided in Sections 1 and 2, concluding with recommendation based on Section 1,2 and 3.
