Description

This subject will demonstrate critical appreciation of event planning and management practically being able to apply this within the industry setting.

The students taking this module get an opportunity to showcase their event management skills and gain credit for practically delivering an event over the duration of the semester. 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

   Demonstrate an awareness of applying event management in real life situations and develop a critical appreciation of applying event design and planning

2.

Display practical knowledge of systems and processes of  event management and monitoring

3.

Interpret key concepts and applications of successful marketing while being able to analyse, interpret, monitor and recommend practical actions for the successful financial management of events

4.

Assess innovations, trends and future development associated with practical event management

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This is 100% CA practical subject.

Students are placed in groups X4/5 & work on the design, implementation & delivery of an event over the semester.

The process is guided through mentoring from the lecturer & in some cases a client for the event who may be an organisation/professional event manager.

Students can also set up their own event. 

Events can be virtual/ face to face or hybrid in nature

Repeat Assessments

Student must shadow/volunteer at an event over the summer & write up a case study of the event design, implementation, delivery & post event analysis 

Proof of attendance at the event must be submitted via ticket/ photographs/ letter from the event manager

•1.    The Events Business                                                                                                    

  • Apply an overview of events management  pertaining to real life event (1,2)
  • Distinguish between typologies and characteristics of practical events(1,2,3)
  • Demonstrate size and scope of the practical event (1,2,3,4)
  • Inspect the structure of demand determinant for the event project(1,2,3)
  • Examine the event project within an Irish context (1,2,3)                                                                                  
  • Interpret the structure of the event project within the public, private and voluntary sectors (1, 2, and 3)
  • Examine the third sector, committees and individuals who may be interested in collaboration on project (1, 2, and 3)
  • Demonstrate legalities and insurance pertaining to the event project management (3)

  • Demonstrate the planning process for events- critical path analysis and Gantt charts  (3)
  • Inspect attendee management for the event project (3)
  • Debate demand and operational planning for the project (3)

  • Manage the evaluation and monitoring of event as a project (3,5)

 

3. Logistics of event management

  • Use of logistics and support services, creating the ambience (3,4,)
  • Interpret principles and applications of event systems such as ticketing and reservations( 2,3,4)

  • Examine the roles of organisational manager and the team involved in the event (3,4)
  • Interpret the factors influencing the number and type of staff (3,4)
