Description

This module aims to provide learners with the necessary skills and competence to understand mathematical concepts and investigate a range of common uses for spreadsheets. It aims also to enable students to understand and assess quantitative information presented to them.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Demonstrate competence in numerical operations.

Summarise and analyse statistical data.

Solve probability problems.

Create a Spreadsheet - data input, formatting, manipulation & reporting

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The teaching and learning strategy is one which is founded on student-centered active learning.  Students will be supported in this module through the use of various virtual learning environments. The student will develop and apply their learning through practical examples, case studies and exercise sheets.

Module Assessment Strategies

Written examination at the end of the semester and quizzes during the semester.

Repeat Assessments

The repeat assessment will involve a Repeat Exam.

1. Basic Mathematics

  • Perform arithmetic operations using fractions
  • Perform calculations using percentages and ratios
  • Apply the laws of indices to expressions involving indices
  • Apply the rules of precedence in evaluating expressions
