This module will give students an introduction into the world of business technology
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Edit advance features of Word document to aid effective business commmunication and formal document writing
Introduce students to spreadsheets
To make students aware of cloud based software opportunities and functionality
Teach students how to manipulate presentation software
Use of computers in the modern business environment (Theory Topic)
Teach students to build online surveys
Teaching and Learning Strategies
The student will have two hours in the lab followed up with a one hour theory class.
Module Assessment Strategies
100% Continuous assessment
- 70% Practical
- 30% Moodle Examination, to cover the theory topics. (Not all multiple choice questions)
Repeat Assessments
The repeat will be divided into practical or theory. The student will be required to repeat whatever part they failed.

- Table of content
- Building a template for essay/dissertations
- Questionnaire design
Presentation software
- Input all forms of data
- Editing slides
- Building slide show with animation and transitions
- Outputing presenatations onto different file / media formats
- Working with master slides
Introduction to Spreadsheets
- Inputing data, Copy, Paste, Fill down etc
- Formula, Addition, Subtraction, multiplication, division, building formula
- Functions; Sum,If, Count, Average, Max, Min, Lookup
- Basic Data manipulation, Sort, filter, Pivot tables
- Data Presentation including bold, Italics, formating, headers, printing etc..
- Charting
- Outputing presenatations onto different file / media formats
Cloud computing
- Definition
- Options, eg Dropbox
- Executing the above problems using cloud computing (Word processing, Spreadsheets, Presentation problems)
- Group work in the cloud
