SPOR06036 2022 Anatomy and Physiology
This module examines the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology in the context of exercise. The module is pitched at an introductory level and is designed to support students coming from a non-science/biology background. The content will also support many other physical activity based modules delivered later in the programme. Blended learning technologies will be employed in the delivery and assessment of this module.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Identify cell organelles, functions, division, and process of osmosis and diffusion.
Explain the digestive, urinary, endocrine and nervous systems.
Describe the anatomy of the heart and lungs and adaptations to exercise.
Describe the musculoskeletal system relative to exercise.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
During the term, students will develop an e portfolio which will encourage students to consult notes and use web searches to research specific topics related to weekly lectures which will help consolidate learning. Lectures will be supported by a Moodle repository for students with diverse learning needs. The use of two multiple-choice quizzes (MCQs) will help to chunk learning into manageable blocks during the term and facilitate the assessment of knowledge recall.
Module Assessment Strategies
Types of assessment:
- Two online Moodle quizzes in weeks 5 and 10
- E-portfolio preparation to be submitted at the end of term.
Repeat Assessments
- Failed CA can be resubmitted in the autumn
- The learner can resit the MCQs in the autumn.

For courses in two-semester A&P. Using Art Effectively to Teach the Toughest Topics in A&P Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology helps students succeed in the challenging A&P course with an easy-to-understand narrative, precise visuals, and steadfast accuracy. With the 11th Edition, the author team draws from recent research exploring how students use and digest visual information to help students use art more effectively to learn A&P. New book features encourage students to view and consider figures in the textbook, and new narrated videos guide students through complex physiology figures to help them deconstruct and better understand complicated processes. Instructors can also request a new handbook by Lori Garrett, entitled The Art of Teaching A&P: Six Easy Lessons to Improve Student Learning, which explores some of the most common challenges encountered when using art to teach A&P, alongside strategies to address these challenges. Pearson Mastering(tm) Anatomy & Physiology not included. Students, if Pearson Mastering(tm) Anatomy & Physiology is a recommended/mandatory component of the course, please ask your instructor for the correct ISBN and course ID. Pearson Mastering(tm) Anatomy & Physiology should only be purchased when required by an instructor. Instructors, contact your Pearson representative for more information.
