Description

The purpose of this module is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to identify training and development needs and to deliver and evaluate a training intervention within a range of training and development contexts. This Level 8 module is the equivalent of the QQI Special Purpose Award in Training and Development 6S3372.  This module has two components which are the equivalent of the QQI Special Purpose Awards in Training Delivery and Evaluation 6N3326 (Train the Trainer) and Training Needs Identification and Design 6N3325.  

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Demonstrate a broad range of knowledge on training and development practice and of the role of training and development across a range of organisations.

2.

Demonstrate and apply key principles and theoretical concepts underpinning training and development within a range of contexts.

3.

Apply a range of of specialised skills and tools to develop strategies required for training and development needs identification.

4.

Prepare a training and development plan to include the identification of training and development needs within an organisation.

5.

Apply training and development concepts, technical skills and creative thinking in the preparation of training plans and material.

6.

Deliver and evaluate a training intervention.

7.

Evaluate own learning and assist others to identify their learning styles and needs within a training and development context.

8.

Reflect on personal and professional practice, evaluating the impact on others within a training and development context.

9.

Constructively critique and adapt health and safety training and development plans.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered full-time.  This will include lectures, augmented by independent learning and directed learning.  This approach is expected to address student learning needs.  Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, unloading assignments and journals)

 

Module Assessment Strategies

This module is 100% Continuous Assessment.  Regular Moodle Quizzes (15%) through out the semester .  A Relective Learner Record  (10%).  Devise a workplace training needs analysis and develop a training plan based on needs and cost benefit (25%).   Develop appropriate training content and materials. (25%).  Deliver Training and evaluate (Skills Demonstration) (25%)

The theory and concepts of training and evaluation of learning; ADDIE Model, Androgogical Learning Principles, The Training Cycle, Psychology of learning (Knowles, Kolb,  ) Therories -Behaviourism, Observational and Social Learning. Understading preferred Learning Styles, Objectives of Training Evaluation

Training Delivery Planning and preparation; Group and group formation, dealing with difficutlies, Programme Design, planning a training programme, lesson plans.  Role of the trainer -technical competencies, instructional and interactional competencies. Gagne model  Skills and andragogical knowledge and skills of trainer.  Training styles and Feedback.

Legislation and managing diversity; equal opportunities, dealing with biases, barriers to learning, inclusive teaching and learning, teaching strategies and specific disabilities, mental and physical disabilities, impairments , culture and language barriers, verbal and non verbal communication,Discrimination, Equal Status Acts, Emoloyment Equality Act, 

Instructional Design Models and IT - ADDIE Model Anaysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate - Instructional Design evaluations models-Response Evaluation Model. Instructional aids and their design. 

Training and Assessment Methods- Training strategies, learning outcomes and their alignment, Assessment techniques and approaches.  Assessment methodologies and criteria for marking.
