This module will focus on core topics that impact on workers health and wellness both positively and negatively. During this module students will gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of health promotion practice in a workplace setting. The learner will be able to identify and outline the core skills required to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion initiatives from a theoretical perspective.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;


Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles and theories of health promotion within a workplace setting.


Outline, describe and interpret core principles required for effective health promotion practice.


Critically appraise current research regarding topics that impact on workers health both positively and negatively.


Source, select and present relevant health related data to illustrate the core skills in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion initiatives.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The students will be exposed to a blend of learning activities e.g. on-line lectures (via Adobe Connect), independent learning and directed learning. This approach is expected to address various student learning needs. Moodle will be used to upload educational material( e.g. powerpoint presentations. recordings of on-line lectures and supplementary reading material) and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals).

The online delivery will be blended with workshops to bring the learners together to facilitate group learning.

Module Assessment Strategies

Continuous assessment 50% Final Exam 50%

Regular MCQs and assessments will be undertaken through Moodle and assignment uploads through Moodle.

Repeat Assessments

Repeat assignments will be available on Moodle, subject to IT Sligo Procedure on late submissions, 'Applications for extension of continuous assessment deadlines'.
