Description

The aims of this module are to provide an opportunity for students to independently and collectively develop the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct hazard identification and risk assessment in a work environment and examine suitable organisational and operational controls contained in the Safety Statement.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Research and prepare a safety statement for application to a prescribed work place.

Be self-directed in terms of time, motivation and planning taking direction and feedback to enhance performance.

Work independently and apply technical judgement on complex tasks.

Communicate and cooperate with all relevant stakeholders in a professional manner.

Collaboratively solve OSH technical issues and participate in a structured group environment.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered full-time. 

The students will be exposed to a blend of learning activities, independent learning, and directed learning. Assessments are formative and summative relation to Process Marks (40%) and Product Marks (60%)

This module comprises of student learning and risk assessment activities to facilitate the writing of a workplace-based mini safety statement. The students may work in groups or independently and are collectively & individually responsible to deliver their work in a professional manner according to an agreed criteria & timeline.

Students are given precise instructions at the beginning of the semester outlining the key issue(s), the marking scheme attaching to the deliverables, including process mark and product mark and the expected assessment format.

Students are expected to carry out work in EBL class and independently outside of class time according to their own schedule.

Module Assessment Strategies

Students will be continuously assessed individually and in groups throughout the module. Criteria will be given to students indicating assessment strategies for this EBL module. Students will be expected to carry out work in EBL class and will conduct practical hazard identification and risk assessment in a prescribed workplace and develop suitable and adequate controls.
