QUSU07024 2019 Work Placement
The purpose of this module is that the student will actively seek and undertake relevant workplace engagement and gain Quantity Surveying professional experience with either a contracting organisation or professional practice for a minimum period of 3 months. The work-placement component is an integral part of the academic programme. The placement will offer the student the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course in a relevant workplace setting. If the student cannot attain workplace engagement, the student will carry out a project over the 3-month period. For the first eight weeks of this module, the student will learn how to prepare a professional curriculum vitae, application letter and learn interview techniques by taking part in practical mock interviews.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Prepare a curriculum vitae and application letter
Actively seek relevant employment and attend interview
Apply the practical skills acquired on the academic programme within the workplace
Work as a member of a team and develop appropriate communication and interpersonal skills
Utilise new skills learned during the three months work placement in accordance with the Work Placement Procedural Document
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Week 1 to week 8 - Learn how to prepare a professional curriculum vitae, application letter and interview techniques.
Week 9 to week 20 - Carry out work placement.

Commence work placement no later than week 9 of each semester and continue for a minimum period of 3 months
Carry out work activities in accordance with the Work Placement Procedural Document
Keep and maintain a daily record of work activities and upload a weekly report to Moodle. To be signed off by work supervisor.
Supervising lecturer to carry out 1 visit to the students place of work over the work placement period and meet with the student and the students work supervisor.
The student has to prepare a written report at the end of the work placement period detailing and summarising the experiences gained.
