Description

This module explores all pre- and post-contract functions of a selected Estimating/Quantity Surveying software package

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Outline the various QS/Estimating software tools available and their functions

2.

Create, store, distribute, maintain, merge, import/export projects between various software packages

3.

Develop quantity calculations with on-screen takeoff using digital drawings and the use of cell referencing

4.

Create unit, composite rates, price lists and constants

5.

Prepare, edit and print electronic estimates, bills of quantities, progress claims, valuations and variations

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Instruction is by means of weekly tutorials to be held in a computer laboratory providing students with the opportunity to present solutions to the tutor on pre-determined tasks. Audio visual aids are used by the tutor in the form of slide projections mainly to elaborate on content and to stimulate discussion.

Estimate Creation, structured descriptions, calcuation sheets, On-Screen digital takeoff, reusing takeoff,

Multiple Item takeoff, Fenestration Takeoff/Deductions, Irregular Shapes

Cell Referencing, reference anatomy and external referencing

Estimating - rate sheets, creating rates, unit rates, composite rates

Export/Import to/from Excel and other Estimating software
