This module is intended as an introductory course in Quality and Production Management and is complementary to 'Quality and Production Techniques 1'

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Explain how customers needs are transferred into product specifications.

2.

Describe the different types of production/operations systems.

3.

Solve simple production management problems.

4.

Use basic control charts.

Indicative Syllabus

 

 

 

The Importance of the Customer: The relationship between quality and the customer. Who is the customer, what are their needs. The concept of the internal customer.

Product Life Cycle: Product definition and specification. Bill of materials Product Strategy. The design process. The product life cycle

Demand Forecasting: Simple demand forecasting, identifying trends and calculation of moving averages.

Capacity and Inventory Management: Capacity management, scheduling, inventory management.

Production Layouts: Types of layouts - process, product, project, continuous and cellular. Simple layout. Planning.

Introduction to Control Charts and Pareto Analysis: An introduction to control charts - X-bar and R variable control charts. Pareto analysis for quality and production management

Product Structure and Scheduling: Product structure, MRP and MRPII systems.
