QLTY06003 2013 QUALITY AND PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES 1
This module is intended as an introductory course in Quality and Production Management and is complementary to Quality and Production Techniques 2.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Describe the production system and its various functions
Explain the roles, tasks and functions of production and quality management within the manufacturing environment.
Demonstrate the importance of quality within the manufacturing environment.
Use simple quality tools to analyse data.
Indicative Syllabus
Introduction: Setting the scene. The concept of Input-Output diagrams to explain the role of the production system in a total organisational context.
The Production Environment: The production Environment and the Different Functional Areas. The role of production and quality management.
The Importance of Quality for Service and Product Organisations: Defining quality and its contribution to the success of an organisation. The quality revolution. Introduction to assessment standards - ISO9000, Baldrige Award etc.
Introduction to Quality Tools: Introduction to basic quality tools - histograms, check sheets and graphs, Scatter Diagrams, Fishbone diagrams, Run Charts, Pareto Analysis, Quality Function Deployment charts.
Job Design and Work Measurement: Physical and behavioural considerations in Job Design, work methods and Work Measurement and standards. Workplace design and ergonomics.
Process Analysis: Types of Processes, Process Flowcharting and measuring process performance
