PSYG07002 2019 Exercise Physiology 2
This module will enable the learners to explain and demonstrate principles, concepts and inter-relationships between the circulatory, respiratory and endocrine systems at rest and during exercise.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Describe Cardiovascular and Respiratory control and regulation at rest and during exercise.
Describe the hormonal regulation of metabolism, fluid and electrolytes during exercise.
Use relevant scientific skills to perform measurements in ECG and Blood pressure at rest and in response to exercise.
Define, collect and analyse spirometry data (static and dynamic lung volumes and capacities).
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered full time. This will include lectures, laboratory practicals and augmented by independent and directed learning. This approach is expected to address student learning needs. Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (e.g.quizzes, uploading assignments).
Module Assessment Strategies
This module is 65% continuous assessment and 35% final exam.
The assessment strategy for this module focuses on the ability to conduct physiological tests that look at the interrelationship between various physiological components. Ability to interpret data and report results is assessed by written assignment. Theory is assessed by online quizzes with immediate feedback for the students. Students conduct their own experiment of choice in a team environment to assess their ability to work autonomously within an agreed timeframe. Findings of this are communicated by a presentation to their peer group.
The student must reach an assigned gate (30 marks) in the final exam and achieve 40% overall to pass the subject.
Repeat Assessments
Repeat continuous assessment and/or final exam.
