Description

In this module students will be introduced to roles and responsibilities of the Clinical Measurement Professional.  They will be introduced to the other professions within healthcare and  the role they play in the patient journey.  They will also be introduced to the concept of patient centred care and the underlying principles.

The aim of this module is to give students a foundational understanding of the healthcare environment, the multi-disciplinary care and core concepts in patient care. It will also provide them with requisite skills required for their study and assignments as well as practical skills involved in healthcare communication.  

Through lectures, seminars, group work and assignments students will gain relevant knowledge and skills for study and professional work in a collaborative context. 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Define and describe the role of the Clinical Measurement Physiologist across all five disciplines and their place within the multidisciplinary healthcare team

Describe and understand the importance of patient-centred care

Display basic skills of researching health related topics

Discuss health care topics in an efficient and professional manner, both orally and in written form

Recognise the importance of continuous professional development

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Lectures/workshops will provide information and facilitate discussion on the module topics.  

The teaching and learning methods adopted will involve engagement and active self-directed learning by students. These will include group discussions, individual & group tasks, peer learning and presentation. These provide opportunities for students to develop skills in information sourcing, referencing, distilling and communicating this clearly.

The students will be expected to engage in online activities and to make use of supporting materials and exercises.  While learning materials will be available via the University eLearning environment, students will also be expected to make effective use of external websites, as well as prior and current learning experience.

Module Assessment Strategies

The pass mark for this module will be 40%

Assessment is 100% continuous assessment. 

Online quizzes, short assessments will be used to assess relevant theoretical content. 

Students will prepare an assignment, a patient leaflet and an oral presentation as part of the module. 

Timely assessment feedback will also be available in written format and students will be given the opportunity to discuss their feedback on submissions. 

Repeat Assessments

Students will be afforded the opportunity to repeat all/any element Failed at the first available opportunity.
