PSYC08026 2022 Psychological Resilience in Practice
The module introduces students to Positive Psychology and the science of wellbeing and resilience. It explores emotional expression, the negative impact of toxic stress and adverse experiences and provides a Psychological theoretical basis for care with specific emphasis on resilience. The module focuses on both developing students understanding of theoretical principles and application. In addition, students will explore the importance of self - care and examine strategies to support students/professionals when working and/or caring.

Teaching and Learning Strategies
Delivery will involve large group lectures followed by individual and small group work sessions.
This module will use active learning strategies such as discussion, case studies, group work and one minute paper exercises.

Portfolio: 5 parts, 4 sections addressing each of the LO’s and a reflection section.

Indicative Syllabus
LO 1 Analyse the contribution of Positive Psychology to enhance health & wellbeing.
In this section we study: Positive Psychology: the scientific study of health and happiness. Positive Psychology working in tandem with other psychological perspectives to enhance health & wellbeing.
LO 2 Examine the Physiology & Psychology of the human stress response system.
In this section we examine: the Physiology & Psychology of our stress response system. In addition, we will focus on tolerable stress & toxic stress.
LO 3 Explore strategies & develop skills to support service users develop positive relationships, and nurture resilience.
In this section we explore: the Psychology of emotions, regulation and dysregulation. Positive Psychology to support emotional coaching/emotional co regulation. Skills development and strategies to support the development of positive relationships, and nurture resilience.
LO 4 Investigate the importance of ‘being well to care well’ as a SCP professional, nurturing one’s own resilience & wellbeing.
In this section we focus on: the professional practitioner and address coping skills & resilience. Support strategies when working and/or caring in busy and challenging working environments. Caring for the carer, preventing compassion fatigue & burnout.
