Description
The project will allow the learner to investigate an area of interest relevant to Clinical Measurement Physiology. Learners will complete a project which may be undertaken in a variety of modes as deemed suitable by the programme board. The type and style of the project will be decided in consultation and collaboration between academic lecturers and the Practice Placement Educator. Learners will examine and define the project and execute appropriate methodologies, evaluate the current evidence base as appropriate, analyse data (if required), evaluate findings critically and draw suitable conclusions specific to the project type.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
Formulate a methodology and construct a project plan
2.
Develop a systematic and self-directed approach to gaining further knowledge and understanding of a relevant area
3.
Critically examine literature/theory and draw inferences from this body of knowledge
4.
Analyse, adapt and apply a range of standard and specialised tools and techniques of enquiry appropriate for the project area
5.
Synthesise a project report that details and evaluates the work undertaken and justifies the conclusions reached
6.
Disseminate the project in a variety of forms including oral and presentation
Teaching and Learning Strategies
The module is an independent project that will involve self-directed learned. This is a learner-centered approach, where the learner will assume the responsibility for learning. Students will avail of an academic supervisor in conjunction with the Practice Placement Educator. A list of proposed project types will be discussed in the previous semester and learners will have the option to discuss and agree their owe project, the suitability of which will be determined by the supervisor/Practice Placement Educator. Students will manage their time effectively to ensure they meet regularly with their supervisor/Practice Placement Educator to discuss matters related to the project. These meetings should engage the student in discussion which will focus and challenge them on project approaches/design etc.
A Guideline Document will be made available as a resource and Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (uploading your final project copy). Academic supports for Maths, data analysis and academic writing, if required, will be made available throughout the project, including online moodle support pages in each of these areas.
Module Assessment Strategies
Regardless of the project type assessment of this module will be based on
- Preparation of project plan
- Submission of project report
- Presentation of the project
- Oral examination
Repeat Assessments
Where a learner fails this module the examiners will identify the deficits in learning. The Learner will then have an opportunity to address these deficits and resubmit the project for a full re-examination at this next available opportunity.
Indicative Syllabus
Students will complete a project which may be undertaken in a variety of modes deemed suitable by the programme board. Possible strategies and formats include traditional research study, case reports/series, audits, project implementation, development of professional qualification portfolio. The design of the project is intended to enable students to engage in an independent project where they utilise the skills and competencies that they have acquired during the programme and practice placement.
- Design a project plan indicating tasks and milestones to be completed within the allocated time frame
- Source, review and critically evaluate relevant literature in relation to the topic of the project
- Develop and implement appropriate techniques/methodologies for the successful completion of the project
- Determine and complete the necessary ethics process, if required
- Analyse and interpret outcomes using appropriate methods
- Demonstrate an understanding of the wider implications of the project in the area of clinical measurement physiology
- Write a report, present and critically appraise the project
