Description
This module is intended to enable students to present primary and/or secondary data collected in relation to an aspect of human health, health promotion, physiology or nutrition. Students will utilise skills and competencies they have acquired to report research findings in accordance with established academic practice.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
Demonstrate a critical evaluative approach to a research project.
2.
Source, interpret, review and apply appropriate and referenced literature from area of investigation.
3.
Design methodologies to collect and statistically analyse relevant data where appropriate.
4.
Interpret findings and apply appropriate recommendations as a result of the research conducted.
5.
Present, promote and communicate the research project in a variety of forms.
6.
Take direction, accept criticism and use supervisors feedback to work autonomously and responsibly within a defined time frame.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered full-time.
This will include a weekly meeting with your project supervisor.
A Research Guideline Document will be made available as a resource and Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (uploading your final project copy).
Module Assessment Strategies
This module is 100% continuous assessment.
The continuous assessment will involve 3 parts:
- Final research project paper submission
- Poster presentation and viva
- Continuous assessment process

Indicative Syllabus
- Establish a research framework within the allocated time frame.
- Source, review and evaluate relevant literature in relation to the topic being investigated.
- Develop research methodologies and practices.
- Conduct primary research in a scientific/health setting
- Analyse and interpret data collected using statistical methods.
- Present a research paper of the project to include the relevant sections as laid down in the research guidelines issued by the research co-ordinator within the programme.
- Display, defend and critically appraise the project during a poster presentation.
