To be able to conduct a quality improvement project

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Have developed good time management and planning skills.

2.

Have a deeper understanding of one aspect of ISO9001:2000 quality management system standard.

3.

Be able to find online journal articles on a chosen topic.

4.

Be able to conduct a quality improvement project

5.

Have developed a good report writing technique for industrial projects.

6.

Be able to describe the industrial context and the technical and team skills associated with project work in a real industrial/commercial environment

 Indicative Practicals/Projects

Part A    Library Research                   Weighting 33%

The learner will submit a 3000-word essay on a topic chosen from one area from either section 5, 6, 7 or 8 of the ISO9001:2000 standard, based on literature review of at least five relevant and up-to-date journal articles. 

Part B    Practical Project                     Weighting 50%

The learner will carry out an in-company project on product or service quality and related matters, suitable for a trainee Quality Technologist.  The time spent on the project will be at least five days (i.e., at least 40 work hours content), excluding the time spent writing the report.  The report format will be geared towards organisational needs as specified by IT Sligo. 

Part C    Dissertation                            Weighting 17%

The learner will submit a 3000-word essay on the organisation where the practical project was carried out.  This will be in four sections: Introduction, Quality, Human Relations and Work Done. 

Detailed requirements will be provided to the learners for the project.
