Description
This module uses the performance texts of WB Yeats as a point of entry for a collaborative, non literature based approach to the examination , editing, physical scoring and performance of an collective response to an assigned text.
In this final phase of the actor's training the learner(s) are reacquainted with a full ensemble approach to performance that also includes elements of solo and group performance. In this phase the learners are encouraged to conceive of themselves as creative artists in their own right.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
Learners will explore the physical approach to staging Yeats, (employing somatic principles) thereby bypassing a literary or dry reading of the text.
2.
Learners will embody the formal language of the text in a process of experimentation, exploration and final performance of a response to a Yeats play
3.
Learners will demonstrate the ability to integrate different performance-disciplines leading to a public sharing (i.e. Laban principles; composition tools from Michael Chekhov Technique/Stanslavisky/Suzuki/Viewpoints/Corporeal Mime and Contemporary Dance)
4.
Building a collaborative framework, students will apply fully their previous skills in order to invent a common language of performance
5.
Demonstrate the ability to devise, notate and edit, work in a collaborative enviornment
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Teaching takes place in a thrice weekly workshop, where the student is directed as in a professional setting with an clear emphasis on preparation for the performance of the selected Yeats play.
Teaching will be team driven , with a panel of people drawn from acting/movement disciplines leading the activity. The initial period of exploration and devising will lead to work being generated. TThis work will then be further edited and rehearsed until a final performance (s) are produced.
Students are re-acquainted with the concepts and practice of full collaboration.
Learners are expected to begin to apply that which they have acquired during the course to the process both in their individual performances and as an ensemble member; moving the learner towards a conception of themselves as an autonomous creative artist.

Under certain circumstances the exam board may recommend that the student repeat attend the module.
Indicative Syllabus
Building on previous modules, students will draw on their physical languages of performance; their acting techniques (for example, Chekhov or Stanislavsky) and movement techniques such as Laban principles and tools of Theatre and Dance/Contact Improvisation to explore and respond to a Yeats play.
Skills development will include devising, notating, editing, rehearsing and performing of a Yeats play.
