Description
This module has been developed to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills associated with Professional Theatre Design Presentation, Technical Drawing and Model Making (including 3D printing and computer controlled cutting) for practitioners of Theatre Design in a professional studio environment. The skills are intended to concisely and clearly communicate all needed specifications to transform an idea into a physical form for production. The learner shall be able to interpret and communicate designs and ideas in 2D and 3D to a professional standard and for the collaborative working practices in the creative industries. Their professional studio skills will be developed according to industry needs and standards.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
Request plans, elevations and technical specifications of an international performance space.
2.
Use plans and translate same to execute an AutoCAD and hand-drawn plan and elevation of a designated international performance space.
3.
Produce AutoCAD and hand-drawn sections of set design.
4.
Use plans and translate same to execute a detailed 3D model of the designated performance space in extreme detail and to a professional standard.
5.
Use digital media to capture theatrical moments illustrated within the constructed 3D model for presentation and portfolio purposes.
6.
Understand the industry needs for collaborative working practices - including professional communication, time management and budgeting skills
Module Assessment Strategies
Assessment is continuous and is undertaken at the conclusion of each block or project.
Indicative Syllabus
The semester commences by facilitating a project assigned by Design Studies Staff. The following content shall be taught in order to aid the fruition of the project:
CAD for Theatre Design 4
Creation of industry standard plans, elevations and sections both hand drawn and CAD.
3D AutoCAD modeliing and rendering - detailed model making
Manipulation of CAD in Adobe products for presentation purposes.
Compilation of project elements for professional presentations.
Creation of a digitised portfolio of works to date
