Description

Year 3 seeks to integrate the ensemble focus of Year 1 and the learners' individual development of Year 2 into a coherent rehearsal and performance practice. Students will prepare for and rehearse a full-length play and perform it to an audience.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

demonstrate a high level of professional conduct

demonstrate a well-grounded knowledge and understanding of the world of the playwright, the world of the play and the style of presentation required by the director

3.

display an appropriate and fully developed characterisation

4.

select appropriate choices from a range of voice and movement skills

5.

collaborate as an active member of an integrated ensemble

6.

consistently demonstrate the high levels of energy and vitality necessary to sustain and support the work at all times and the ability to develop a part through rehearsal into performance and from one performance to the next

7.

show the ability to relate to an audience based on the Chekhov Technique principles of giving, receiving and establishing communion with the audience.

8.

document, reflect on and evaluate the creative process and personal progression

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Principles of technique are embodied through theorised praxis. Classroom activity is supported by a range of reading materials.

Teaching takes place in a twice weekly workshop setting where the student is directed as in a professional setting with an clear emphasis on preparation for  the performance of the selected text

One teaching strategy is to introduce the core concepts from the Michael Chekhov Technique of communion with the audience

Students keep reflective journals of their activities.

Indicative Syllabus

Research into the world of the playwright and the play.

Close textual examination of character, relationships and actions.

Research into the performance history of the selected play. Exploration of staging modes.

Rehearsal and performance

Further development of the individual actor's physical, vocal, emotional, psychological and intellectual means and work on all aspects of the actor's process.
