Description
This module is designed to enable the learner to develop the ability to create a believable characterisation through the medium of heightened or poetic text.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
adhere to the professional requirements of a theatre practitioner
2.
apply research and textual analysis to characterisation
3.
employ appropriate techniques towards characterisation
4.
display appropriate voice and movement skills and apply them to the demands of non-naturalistic depiction of character and heightened or poetic texts
5.
apply direction creatively
6.
document, reflect on and evaluate the creative process and personal progression
7.
demonstrate an ability to apply the Michael Chekhov technique principles of characterisation and transformation to the chosen text
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Principles of technique are embodied through theorised praxis. Classroom activity is supported by a range of reading materials.
Teaching/learning takes place in a twice weekly workshop setting.

Students are continuously assessed on attendance ,contribution, engagement, interest, application to activities and final performance
Repeat Assessments
A repeat project is allocated to the student.

Indicative Syllabus
•· Textual examination of appropriate material to develop ways of working on characterisation, action, discourse, staging and narrative in relation to classical texts.
•· Development and extension of the actor's vocal, physical and imaginative resources in relation to the speaking of heightened text.
•· Research into the world of the writer and the play.
•· Exploration of Commedia dell'Arte and its relation to Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
•· Rehearsal and Performance of Shakespearian/ Jacobean play to an audience.
