Description

The subject aims to introduce students to the key theories, concepts and ideas underpinning individual behaviour and group and organisational processes in organisations.  In addition it aims to introduce students to how to apply this knowledge to organisational settings.   

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Describe various personality and perceptual dimensions that are responsible for individual differences in the workplace.

2.

Identify ways in which managers can motivate individuals in the workplace.

3.

Examine the principles of learning which underpin effective training in the workplace.

4.

Identify the sources of occupational stress and describe ways to manage it effectively.

5.

Describe different leadership styles in organisations.

6.

Explain the dynamics of groups in an organisational setting.

7.

Describe how teams function effectively in the workplace.

8.

Identify ways in which conflict can be handled in business organisations.

9.

Explain methods to manage organisational change.

10.

Understand and explain equality and diversity issues in the workplace.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

THis module will be delivered by lecture with tutorial support as appropriate.  The learner will be encouraged to develop an understanding of the theory and how it may be applied in organisations.  Reference will be made to case study material to support this objective.

The module will be assessed using a combination of continuous assessment and a final examination.
