MKTG07101 2016 Volunteerism
The module aims to strengthen the relationship between higher education and wider society through civic engagement activities including community-based research,community-based learning, volunteering and knowledge exchange.
An student must undertake a minimum of 50 hours voluntary work within the semester. Through a mentoring process the student will gain valuable experience recognising the learning pre, during & post module to develop an awareness of community engagement
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Proof of registration with a voluntary organisation
complete process of Garda Vetting, child protection & any other relevant training necessary to carry out volunteer process.
carry out a minimum of 50 hours volunteering domestically or abroad
showcase how they carried out the volunteering. A letter of endorsement from the volunteer organisation must be received.
Present learning outcomes to peers at the Institute of Technology, Sligo on completion of volunteers duties.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Mentoring is provided between student, lecturer & volunteer organisation in implementation of the volunteer process
Module Assessment Strategies
Registration 10% (form to be filled in)
Course requirements 20% (log book to be kept)
Volunteering 50% (interview, letter of endorsement, process and signed off once completed, Volunteer process/project)
Stakeholder endorsement 10% (letter of recommendation)
Presentation 10%

Student must register with Volunteer organisation
Complete 50 hours minimum of voluntary service
Achieve endorsement from the voluntary organisation
Carry out any relevant legal operations needed to perform the voluntary duty such as Child Protection course, Garda Vetting and any other training required.
Attend Volunteer Induction course
Complete volunteer duties (50 hours min)
Receive acknowledgement from the organisation
