MGMT06034 2019 Site Management
This module introduces the learner to the techniques used in the control and construction of civil and building projects including resource procurement, the tendering process, contracts and bills of quantities. The standard forms of contract used in Ireland together with the GCCC contracts are reviewed. The various site personnel are defined and scheduling and resource management techniques are introduced. Safety, risk assessment and management techniques are reviewed and analysed.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Define the personnel within the construction industry
Identify and analyse the various types of contract and methods of measurement used in the Civil Engineering industry
Understand graphical representations of Civil Engineering programmes to show time, cost and quality criteria
Identify and describe the duties of the various parties under current Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Legislation.
Apply the processes of Project Management and its applications in a Civil Engineering Context.

Module Assessment Strategies
1. 1 hour MCQ exam mid-semester
2. 2 hour written final exam
3. Bill of Quantities assignment and Safety project
Repeat Assessments
Student may repeat the terminal exam in autumn and re-submit assignments, if required, before the autumn repeats

- Contract Documents: Bill of Quantities, Drawings, Specifications, Form of Tender, Form of Agreement, etc Conditions of Contract: Public Works Contract, NEC3, FIDIC.
- Types of Contract: Measurement Contracts, Lump-Sum Contracts, Cost reimbursable Contracts, Turnkey Contracts, Target Contracts, etc
- Tenders: Types of Tender, Checking and Selection.
- Preparation of: (i) Contract Documents, (ii) Safety Project to include Safety Statement.
- Introduction to Project Management
