MGMT06029 2022 Business Management
This module aims to develop an awareness and understanding of the core functions of management in a dynamic global business environment. Learners will also develop an understanding of each of the main functional areas of management (marketing, human resources, finance and operations) and the importance of coordination across these. Contemporary business management issues relating to these aspects and the wider business environment will be explored using practical examples, case studies and lectures.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Explain the evolution of management theory
Describe the core functions of management and relationship between planning, organising, leading & motivation and controlling.
Evaluate the importance of the business environment in the planning process
Define and describe the key functional areas within an organisation
Identify the skills required to co-ordinate the key functional areas and their role in effective business management

- Lectures and class discussion to develop an understanding of business management concepts and practices.
- Accessible course material such as recording of live lectures, lecture notes and supporting readings, case studies and video links available on Moodle.
- Active Learning applied in tutorials to discuss lecture material, industry developments and case studies.
- Company case studies to give students an understanding of business management in organisations.
- Flipped classroom in providing students with required reading material for classroom discussion.
- Group research project to develop students' teamwork and research skill and to compare and critically assess the practice of management in industry-leading organisations in key functional areas.
