LANG07082 2021 French Language, Cultural and Contemporary Media 3.2
This Module continues progress towards CEFR Level B2. The student is expected to demonstrate greater independence in the correct use of oral, written and aural skills. Use of text-based and contemporary media will be selected to reflect the student's increased independent reading skills and intercultural awareness.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
continue to progress to achieving CEFR Level B2 .
appraise the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics relating to their fields of interest.
produce clear detailed text on a range of subjects which correspond to their areas of interest.
explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options and interact with increased fluency with native speakers.
produce and present a presentation which relates to their field of specialisation, e.g. a short video/podcast.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Active learning is encouraged and participation is facilitated through small class size, roleplay and e-learning activities,via Moodle and the Virtual Learning Environment. The use of authentic texts (abridged) with audio and audio-visual materials provides an introduction to modern Francophone media and underpins the contemporary focus of relevant topics. Conversation with native speakers will be encouraged and facilitated where possible.

Linguistic ability will be assessed in:
- oral interviews
- presentations
- written tests
- listening tests
- projects
ONGOING = Every TWO To FOUR weeks, assessment in these areas will occur through Oral/Aural/Written work/ project and/or Role-play
These assessments will measure a student at B2 level

Indicative Syllabus
Listening: can begin to understand extended speech and lectures on topics which are reasonably familiar
Reading: read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems and literary prose
Spoken Interaction: interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible
Spoken Production: can present clear descriptions on a range of subjects related to their field of interest
Writing: can write clear and correct text on a range of subjects related to their interests; can write short reports passing on information and letters relating to personal and relevant business issues
Cultural Awareness: project and presentation work will compare and contrast French culture in personal and business situations with their own national culture
