Description

This module focuses the student on the personal and professional competencies required to effectively influence, coach, lead, and champion people and causes in the workplace.  Students will reflect and examine key skills which are core to people practice.  It focuses on how promoting well-being, fairness, collaboration, and integrity enhances organisational performance.  It incorporates the development of self-awareness through a high degree of self-reflection of the following skills areas; evidence-based critical thinking, influencing and decision-making,  coaching and mentoring, understanding the business, networking, and ongoing professional and career development.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Critically discuss the personal and professional competencies required to effectively lead and champion people and causes in the workplace.

2.

Demonstrate self awareness of personal and professional integrity, principles and values.

3.

Demonstrate personal influencing skills in communication and decision making.

4.

Critically evaluate personal coaching and mentoring skills.

5.

Apply learning to enhance personal and professional effectiveness in strategic people management.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered online through lectures and skills development workshops as appropriate.  The teaching and learning strategy is one which is founded on student-centered active learning.  The teaching and learning strategy will evolve as the module is delivered. However, it is expected that lectures (live, virtual, and/or recorded), videos, guest speakers, group work, problem-based learning, inquiry-based learning, reading, research, reflection, workshops, and peer review will be core to this module.

A range of Computer-Aided Learning (CALL) packages are available to support this module (e.g. Moodle, Teams, Panopto).

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment will be 100% continuous and may include some of the following:  reflective journal, PDP, role play, presentation (recorded/live or virtual), and essay.  Ongoing assessments may consist of reflective practices, eg, a learning journal at regular intervals during the module (c. weeks 5 & 9) which form the basis for a PDP in the final week.

In order to use the module and programme for the CIPD accreditation, students must pass all assessments within the module and must reach the pass mark in all modules.

Some assessments may be carried out on a shared basis with other modules where possible, eg, personal skills may be assessed in this format. If shared assessment is being used it will be clear to students which elements of the assessment apply to which modules.  Assessment schedules will be coordinated in conjunction with other modules being taught in the semester to ensure that students have adequate time to meet all deadlines.

Assessments will be reviewed annually and adapted as appropriate.

Repeat Assessments

Repeat assessments will be developed to align with failed components.
