Description

The key objective of this module is to equip the students with knowledge and skills in the functional area of Human Resource Management.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Describe the HR planning process and appraise its purpose in business.

2.

Describe the steps in the recruitment and selection process.

3.

Write a training programme.

4.

Describe strategies for managing a diverse workforce. 

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The student will engage with the content of the module through lectures, case studies, problem based learning and use of interactive multi-media tools.

Module Assessment Strategies

A combination of multiple choice tests, in class exercises, written assessments and role plays will be used as appropriate for assessment purposes.

Indicative Syllabus

1. HR Planning and Job Analysis:

  • Explain the HR planning process,
  • Examine various methods of job analysis,
  • Differentiate between a job description and person specification.

2. Resource and Talent Planning:

  • Distinguish between the recruitment and selection processes,
  • Evaluate different recruitment methods,
  • Identify how the shortlisting process impacts the employee selection decision,
  • Discuss the range of selection methods available to the HR manager.

3. Learning and Talent Development:

  • Examine the principles of learning,
  • Describe the key steps involved in the learning, training and development process in an organisation,
  • Examine the induction process.

4. Managing Workforce Diversity:

  • Examine the drivers behind diversity initiatives,
  • Discuss the benefits and challenges of a diverse workforce,
  • Explore strategies for managing diversity.
