Description

The Student will learn about the the process of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) which includes how to form a research question, search for relevant evidence, the subsequent analysis and synthesis of the findings and the dissemination and implementation of these findings. Students will also examine how to incorporate practitioner experience and service user views into their evidence based practice. This module will equip also students with the key competencies and skills required to source, critically appraise and communicate evidence within the health, wellness, health promotion and public health area.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Demonstrate an understanding of core epidemiological principles relevant for critical appraisal of epidemiological studies.

Intelligently source and critically appraise and synthesise evidence pertaining to health, wellness, health promotion and public health

Develop strategies and utilise frameworks for putting evidence based research into practice

Critically discuss how evaluations can be designed to contribute to practice informed evidence in health promotion.

Communicate evidence at appropriate level in a variety of settings and to different population groups across the lifespan

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The educational elements will be provided by the Institute of Technology Sligo

Additional lecturing, as required, may be provided by outside specialists and practitioners

Online delivery is proposed with student exposed to a blend of learning activities including synchronous and asynchronous delivery of lectures, online tutorials and reflective tasks. Chunking will be used providing short videos of smaller amounts of content which will be available on the moodle site. Additional materials will be provided on moodle.

Module Assessment Strategies

This module will be assessed on the basis of 100% continuous assessment

Students will be assessed through various assessment processes including some or all of the following; critical appraisal tasks, evidence searching and writing, communication based projects and writing literature reviews.

Repeat Assessments

This programme allows students to progress to a next stage if they have a failed to attain the pass mark for a particular module. A student may be allowed to carry up to 10 credits into a new stage. This policy is at the discretion of the examination board
