When Fortune Magazine estimated that 70% of all strategies fail, italso noted that most of these strategies were basically sound, butcould not be executed. The central premise of Strategic ProjectManagement Made Simple is that most projects and strategies neverget off the ground because of adhoc, haphazard, and obsoletemethods used to turn their ideas into coherent and actionableplans. Strategic Project Management Made Simple is the first bookto couple a step-by-step process with an interactive thinking toolthat takes a strategic approach to designing projects and actioninitiatives. Strategic Project Management Made Simple builds asolid platform upon four critical questions that are vital forteams to intelligently answer in order to create their own strong, strategic foundation. These questions are: 1. What are we trying to accomplish and why? 2. How will we measure success? 3. What other conditions must exist? 4. How do we get there? This fresh approach begins with clearly understanding the what andwhy of a project - comprehending the bigger picture goals that areoften given only lip service or cursory reviews. The second andthird questions clarify success measures and identify the riskyassumptions that can later cause pain if not spotted early. The howquestions - what are the activities, budgets, and schedules - comeslast in our four-question system. By contrast, most projectapproaches prematurely concentrate on the how without firstadequately addressing the three other questions. These fourquestions guide readers into fleshing out a simple, yetsophisticated, mental workbench called "the Logical Framework" - aSystems Thinking paradigm that lays out one's own project strategyin an easily accessible, interactive 4x4 matrix. The inclusion ofmemorable features and concepts (four critical questions, LogFramematrix, If-then thinking, and Implementation Equation) make thisbook unique.

The future of work is virtual, with dispersed teams, telecommuting, remote working and virtual meetings becoming the norm in many sectors and industries around the world. At its best, virtual working can be productive and creative, tapping into the best people wherever they are and bringing skills and experience together efficiently and at low cost. But it can also lead to isolated and disengaged workers, ineffective communication, and uncoordinated and even counter-productive activity. Virtual Leadership discusses how leading a virtual team in our fast-paced world requires a new set of skills and a facilitative leadership approach.Virtual Leadership provides practical strategies, tools and solutions for the key issues involved in managing at a distance. How can I provide leadership, motivation and vision through virtual channels? How do I make virtual meetings effective, engaging and productive, and ensure actions are followed through? How do I create engaged and cohesive teams across distance, cultures and languages? How do I stop virtual team members silently checking out, distracted by local challenges and offline issues? With diverse case studies and examples, this is the essential guide to making a difference as a leader of virtual work.

2016-09-03 Appreciative Inquiry for Change Management
ISBN 0749477911 ISBN-13 9780749477912
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is now a widely recognized process for engaging people in organizational development and change management. Based around conversational practice, it is a particular way of asking questions, fostering relationships, and increasing an organization s capacity for collaboration and change. It focuses on building organizations around what works (rather than trying to fix what doesn t) and acknowledges the contribution of individuals. "Appreciative Inquiry for Change Management "studies AI in depth, identifying what makes it work and how to implement it in order to improve performance within the business. The book explains the skills, perspectives, and approaches needed for successful AI, and demonstrates how a practical conversational approach can be applied to organizational challenges in times of change. Case studies from organizations that have already integrated AI into their change management practice, including Nokia and BP, reveal why these processes are valuable and demonstrate how to promote, create, and generate such conversations in other organizations. Written in jargon-free language, this updated second edition of "Appreciative Inquiry for Change Management" now includes chapters on how positive psychology can enhance appreciative practice and appreciative coaching, making it an essential resource for anyone looking to implement AI in their organization."
2016-02-01 Managing and Leading People Through Organizational Change
ISBN 074947419X ISBN-13 9780749474195
Tremendous forces for change are radically reshaping the world of work. Disruptive innovations, radical thinking, new business models and resource scarcity are impacting every sector. Although the scale of expected change is not unprecedented, what is unique is the pervasive nature of the change and its accelerating pace which people in organizations have to cope with. Structures, systems, processes and strategies are relatively simple to understand and even fix. People, however, are more complex. Change can have a different impact on each of them, all of which can cause different attitudes and reactions. Managing and Leading People Through Organizational Change is written for leaders with the key responsibility of managing people through transitions. Managing and Leading People through Organizational Change provides a critical analysis of change and transformation in organizations from a theoretical and practical perspective. It addresses the individual, team and organizational issues of leading and managing people before, during and after change, using case studies and interviews with people from organizations in different sectors across the globe. This book demonstrates how theory can be applied in practice through practical examples and recommendations, focusing on the importance of understanding the impact of the nature of change on individuals and engaging them collaboratively throughout the transformation journey.
