Description

This module introduces students to the core concepts and theories of project management and how to apply these to the delivery of projects in a health/community setting. This module will give students an understanding of the processes and stages of the project management cycle and the knowledge and skills required.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Appraise the role of projects within the context of healthcare and community organisations justifying the contexts in which a project management approach would be appropriate.

2.

Distinguish between project management frameworks and processes,and tailor these to projects in a health care or community setting.

 

3.

Devise a health focused project plan demonstrating an understanding key project management knowledge areas including but not limited to scope, schedule cost, schedule and quality management.

 

4.

Devise and defend a project management communication plan and a project monitoring and evaluation plan.

5.

Identify and analyse  strategies for effective stakeholder management and engagement and during all stages of the project

6.

Critically analyse approaches to increasing team effectiveness to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives and tasks

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The educational elements will be provided by the Institute of Technology Sligo 

Additional lecturing, as required, may be provided by outside specialists and practitioners 

Online delivery is proposed with student exposed to a blend of learning activities including  synchronous and asynchronous delivery of lectures, online tutorials and reflective tasks. Chunking will be used providing short videos of smaller amounts of content which will be available on the moodle site. Additional materials will be provided on moodle

 

Module Assessment Strategies

This module will be assessment on the basis of 100% continuous assessment.

Students will be assessed through various assessment processes including some or all of the following;Case Study, A rofessional development plan and a research paper
