The learner at the end of this module will have developed a comprehensive and evidence based knowledge of the 'settings based approach' SBA used within the fields of health, health promotion and public health practice.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles and theories of a ‘settings' based approach in health promotion.
Critically appraise current research regarding selection of appropriate settings for various health promotion based initiatives.
Demonstrate the capacity to draw complex relevant health information together and present in an apt concise manner in a funding seminar and proposal paper.
Source, interpret and apply appropriate and referenced health related literature from current evidence base regarding a wide range of settings that are currently utilised to promote health.
Use advanced skills to critically interpret existing policy and evidence in terms of settings based practice.
Reflect on professional skills and competencies and identify skill /facilitation gaps in terms of funding proposal writing and defence.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Students will be able to appreciate the challenges and opportunities that various settings provide as platforms for health promotion and public health activities and interventions
Students will engage in practical workshop sessions with key focus on students critically appraising when and how to use each setting as appropriate to their ar of focus
Students will be involved in practical interactive based learning strategies
Module Assessment Strategies
Assessment will take place by means of the following assessments;
Development and delivery of a funding proposal bid and defence of same by means of a Question & Answer forum
Development of a setting specific resource pack on a specific topic area
Repeat Assessments
Students who do not pass the 3 key elements of assessment will be requested to repeat these elements through additional course work or through repeat attending the module (subject to places being available to the repeat student)
