HLTH08023 2019 Promoting Health in Specific Population Groups
During this module students will gain a detailed knowledge of the importance of utilising a population based approach for targeting health, health promotion and wellness initiatives. The student will demonstrate mastery in developing appropriate methods and strategies for targeting various sub-population groups in society.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the concepts, models, principles and theories of health promotion with reference to specific population groups.
Source, interpret and apply appropriate and referenced health related literature from current evidence base regarding a variety of population groups.
Plan, develop and implement appropriate initiatives to promote population health which are appropriate to the group and in line with evidence based practice.
Engage in collaborative work with external agencies.
Participate constructively in a team environment while planning for a population health initiative.
Reflect on their professional skills and competencies and identify their knowledge / skills gaps and source and undertake self-learning for professional development relevant to the field of population health.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Students will learn through a series of population specific based practical workshops
Each workshop will results in students undertaking a reflective task each week that will be submitted in a self-reflective learning log
Students will also conduct a specialised facilitated workshop session with a specific specialist population group within society e.g people with a defined disability, low literacy group, a specific sexual orientation, a certain medical condition, a population based on sex, age, SEC audience segmentation etc.
Peer and self reflective assessment form part of this module
Module Assessment Strategies
Assessment will take place by two assessments
1 Reflective Weekly Log on Weekly Workshop content
2 Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of a specific facilitated practical workshop with a predefined population group
Peer and self assessment also for a substantial part of this modules learning and competency development amongst students
Repeat Assessments
Attendance of 75% and above is required to pass this module
Students will be required to repeat attend this 100% c/a based practical modules subject to places being available in the course module
