Description

This module will build on Health Promotion Practice I by aiming to give learners an understanding of the key principles and approaches to health promotion and the competencies and skills required to engage in the field of health promotion. Learners will be encouraged to analyse health promotion practice in terms of health promotion principles, competencies for health promotion and effectiveness of interventions.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Critically appraise different approaches to health promotion and assess how they impact on practice.

2.

Identify appropriate strategies for health promotion at individual, community, organizational and policy level

3.

Review the literature identifying different approaches and competencies necessary for effective intervention implementation.

4.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching will incorporate a combination of lectures and practicals through which the main concepts and theories are explained and applied using various methods. Practicals will give students an opportunity to apply the content of the lectures to individual interventions which they will have sourced from peer reviewed journals.  Students will also apply planning and evaluation frameworks in the context of their interventions.  Moodle will be used as a repository of materials for the module.

Module Assessment Strategies

A terminal exam and continuous assessment are part of this subject.

Students will complete an academic case study from a peer reviewed journal. The headings from the case study will be based on the lectures and students will get feedback on aspects of their case study during workshop time.  A terminal exam will be used to assess students overall knowledge. Formative assessments will be given on a regular basis to aid revision and give students feedback on their learning.
