Description

This module will explore the concept of health promotion and the theories, models and competencies underpinning health promotion practice. Learners will be equipped with the knowledge and understanding to support health promotion initiatives with individuals, groups, and communities. Learners will demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to plan a health promotion intervention.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Examine the concepts health and wellbeing and the factors that determine the health of individuals and populations

2.

Describe the models, approaches, theories and competencies, that inform health promotion practice

3.

Recognise and discuss ethical considerations in health promotion

4.

Discuss the role of national and international public health and health promotion agencies/organisations in the development of evidence informed health promotion policies and programmes

5.

Demonstrate an understanding of the process involved in the planning and evaluation of health promotion interventions in different settings

6.

Debate the role of social marketing and the mass media in health promotion

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be facilitated through a combination of online lectures and self directed study. A variety of methods of instruction including online discussions, interactive exercises and the use of online resources to ensure equitable access to content and to meet diverse learner needs

 

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment of the learning outcomes of this module will be through 100% continuous assessment throughout the semester. Assessment will include an essay, project plan and a presentation. Detailed guidance will be provided to students on completing assessments. Students will be encouraged to support and learn from each other through online discussion forums.

Repeat assessments will follow a similar format i.e. essay, project plan and presentation
