ENVR09015 2013 WASTE MANAGEMENT
The Module introduces learners to waste management at both national and organisational levels. The Module addresses the amount and characteristics of wastes arising in the State. The policy shift from various forms of disposal towards elimination at source and use of waste as a resource is explored. Waste minimisation treatment and disposal options and are discussed as is waste auditing. The subject also reviews the current regulatory framework waste producers and management activities.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Research and evaluate a range of contemporary waste prevention, minimisation, recovery and treatment options and determine the circumstances where they are appropriate.
Evaluate Irish waste statistics and discuss the main impacts of current national waste management strategies.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the major obligations/provisions of the main current Irish legislation that relates to waste management and evaluate to what extent these address the issues in relation to waste in Ireland.
Explain how to plan and implement a resource efficiency programme
Communicate in a manner appropriate to the audience addressed.
Module Assessment Strategies
The assignments encourage the learner to research, analyse, evaluate and and report on aspects of waste management. The on-line MCQs are both formative and summative and will assist the learner to assess his/her own learning and encourage timely study during the semester.
