Description
The aim of this module is to address the increasing requirement for occupational safety and health professionals to take responsibility for environmental management in the workplace. The module will focus on safety practitioner skills which are transferable to environmental issues and examine the cross functionality of EHS in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
Describe, discuss and evaluate the environmental risk management process.
2.
Analyse legislation prescribed for the control of major accident hazards with reference to case studies of major disasters and identify the key lessons to be learned.
3.
Identify and interpret environmental policy and legislation and its impact on the workplace.
4.
Examine the links between environmental and OSH issues in the workplace.
5.
Examine and discuss environmental licencing systems.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered full-time. This will include lectures and may include site visits, augmented by independent learning and directed learning. This approach is expected to address student learning needs. Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals).
Module Assessment Strategies
This module is 30% Continuous Assessment and 70% Final Exam. Students may be assessed on submission of an assignment report/essay and/or a short Q&A exam as well as a final theory paper. Feedback using formative assessment will be ongoing via class discussions.
