ENVR07040 2019 Air Quality
This Module explores how the atmosphere can be polluted by various activities. It investigates the statutory responsibilities of various sectors in preventing air pollution and considers the measures that may be taken to prevent air pollution at an organisational level.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Identify the major atmospheric and indoor air pollutants of a chemical nature and the common sources of these pollutants.
Discuss the environmental impact of discharging atmospheric pollutants from selected facilities
Assess compliance of air quality data and evaluate data with relevant legislative and best practice guidelines
Identify various sampling/analysis methodologies that may be used to characterise point source/fugitive air emissions or ambient air quality
Devise a strategy (in accordance with 'best available techniques' or best international practice) to manage air emissions from selected facilities
Teaching and Learning Strategies
his module will be delivered part-time.
This module will be delivered using blended learning techniques.
This will include online lectures (via adobe connect or similar), workshops and may include site visits, augmented by independent learning and directed learning.
This approach is expected to address student-learning needs.
Moodle or an equivalent will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals).
The online delivery will be blended with workshops to bring the learners together to facilitate group learning.
Module Assessment Strategies
Final theory : 50% Continuous assessment: 50%
The students will be exposed to a blend of learning activities e.g. on-line lectures (via Adobe Connect), independent learning and directed learning. This approach is expected to address various student learning needs. Moodle will be used to upload educational material (e.g. powerpoint presentations, recordings of on-line lectures and supplementary reading material) and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals).

The fifth edition of a bestseller, Air Quality provides students with a comprehensive overview of air quality, the science that continues to provide a better understanding of atmospheric chemistry and its effects on public health and the environment, and the regulatory and technological management practices employed in achieving air quality goals. Maintaining the practical approach that has made previous editions so popular, the chapters have been reorganized, new material has been added, less relevant material deleted, and new images added, particularly those from Earth satellites. See Whats New in the Fifth Edition: New graphics, images, and an appended list of unit conversions New problems and questions Revisions and updates on the regulatory aspects related to air quality, emissions of pollutants, and particularly in the area of greenhouse gas emissions Updated information on topics that affect air quality such as global warming, climate change, international issues associated with air quality and its regulation, atmospheric deposition, atmospheric chemistry, and health and environmental effects of atmospheric pollution Written in Thad Godishs accessible style, the book clearly elucidates the challenges we face in our fifth decade of significant regulatory efforts to protect and enhance the quality of the nations air.
