ENVR07034 2019 Natural Heritage Management
The module introduces natural habitats, their community structure and their ecological importance. It will focus on the identification, assessment and management of habitats, the legal framework surrounding them and the implicit value of these resources.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Interpret the Heritage Council scheme for classifying habitats in Ireland
Explain best practice guidance for habitat surveying and mapping
Identify best practice management techniques for threatened habitats & landscapes
Evaluate ecological data and incorporate information into professional reports
Outline the management of a natural resource
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered part‑time. This will include lectures and site visits augmented by independent learning and directed learning. This approach is expected to address student learning needs. Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals).
Module Assessment Strategies
The students will be given live on-line lectures and activities for the duration of the module. Lectures will be uploaded to Moodle with additional reading material and references for other resources. They will be examined by MCQ on Moodle and at the end of semester exam. An assignment will also be given to challenge the student to resource, share and analyse information on natural heritage.
