Description

This module introduces the learner to current, relevant environmental legal instruments.  The learner will recognise issues associated with the implementation of environmental legislation and will be able to identify, explain and evaluate environmental regulation and other interventions and safeguards in an Irish context.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Source and interpret environmental legislation.

2.

Identify the main Irish environmental Acts and  Regulations and outline the main provisions of the key instruments.

3.

Appropriately communicate information regarding environmental legislation.

4.

Identify current environmental issues and assess and explain to what extent existing legislation addresses these issues.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

 This module will be delivered part-time. This will include lectures, practicals, and site visits augmented by independent learning and directed learning. This approach is expected to address student learning needs. Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes and uploading assignments)

Module Assessment Strategies

This module is 50% Continuous Assessment and 50% Final exam.  On-line MCQs assist the learner to assess his/her own progress and the written assignment will encourage the learner to research, analyse and report on a section of legislation in an authentic context.
