Description

This module is designed to give the learner an appreciation of the importance of inter and intrapersonal communication in the development of self, both personally and professionally.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Understand why we communicate, be able to identify a person’s ego state, and if relevant be able to use the appropriate conflict resolution technique.

2.

Identify their ‘preferred’ role in the group context and be able to develop a second ‘preferred’ role where necessary, and in any given situation identify the most appropriate leadership style.

3.

Understand their own motivation, personal and professional.

4.

Apply EI Code of Ethics to any given situation whilst understanding the underlying ethical principles.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered to full-time learners through a mix of formal lectures and practical classes.

Module Assessment Strategies

The learner must pass the continuous assessment, oral presentations and final exam aspects of the module.

The placement aspect of the module is only assessed on a pass/fail basis i.e. no marks will be awarded and it will not be counted towards the final grade of the module. However, to pass the module the learner must take part in an appropriate 12 week work placement and provide a satisfactory report at its conclusion.

Learners will be assessed on the basis of visits by tutors, a diary of work to be kept by the learner and on a short report provided by a senior member of the organisation in which the placement took place.

Repeat Assessments

Where a learner fails this module they will be required to sit a repeat examination and to submit any continuous assessment project work that receives a mark less than 40%.
