This module builds on the competencies introduced in Design Fundamentals I: Representation skills. and is applied to the designs of Interior Spaces. Freehand drawing skills are further developed,  materials presentation, model making and hand rendering  techniques are refined, and orthographic projections are applied to multiple spaces.  In addition, learners further develop their analytical diagramming skills, the use of design sketchbooks and their presentation skills.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Apply orthographic and paraline architectural drawing to a design with multiple spaces.

2.

Produce and co‑ordinate a set of design drawings demonstrating contextualisation and cross‑referencing of design information.

3.

Apply fine arts based representation methods creatively to develop design ideas and communicate design aspirations .

4.

Construct and utilise scale models creatively and accurately as a design development tool from concept to presentation stage.

5.

Compose and communicate a design presentation and ideas  to a peer group.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The module is delivered using a combination of lectures, group tutorials, individual tutorials.  An experiential and student centred approach promotes personal, reflective and active engagement with learning, fostering confidence and competence in the communication of ideas.  Clearly defined learning outcomes are constructively aligned with assessment criteria.

2019-01-16 How Drawings Work
ISBN 1138692972 ISBN-13 9781138692978

How Drawings Work cheekily explains that what architects make is information that enables other people to make buildings. That information comes in a variety of forms: drawings by hand and computer, models both physical and virtual, and words as needed. The book reflects in witty prose on the nature of architectural drawings as tools of communication, pulling from a diverse and eclectic landscape of theories from grammar, functional linguistics, philosophy, art criticism, science fiction, popular culture, and, of course, architecture, to propose a new way to think about architectural communication. More than 50 color images.
