Description

To provide students with a foundation in basic 3D modelling.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Successfully navigate the Solidworks interface.

2.

Create basic 3D geometry in part

3.

Create assemblies using basic parts.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Facilities required are CAD/multimedia computer lab with 3d modeling software (Solidworks or equivalent software) and the Adobe creative suite installed

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment of class exercises and CAD elements of Design 1 Projectwork

Repeat Assessments

On failing the module, the learner will be required to complete a project based repeat assessment.

A Project brief will be issued in which the varying details of the project will be set out and the

project will be submitted digitally or by mail to the lecturer or the exams office.

Indicative Syllabus

Introduction to the software interface and navigation system.

Create and clearly define basic 2D sketches

Use the basic commands to create 3D geometry (extrude, cut, rotate, sweep and loft)

Use history tree to modify existing geometry.

Learn to manipulate sketches (pattern, convert, mirror, offset)

Create assembly of existing parts
