Description

This module will introduce students to the windows environment and give them practical experience in the application of graphic design software to projects. The student will learn foundation graphic design skills through tutorials and projects using Adobe Photoshop for producing design projects for on screen and print.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Appreciate the advantages that computer technology offers designers and become familiar with the windows environment.

 

2.

Provide students with a foundation in graphic design software and appreciate its application in the design process.

 

3.

Demonstrate a basic proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment is continuous and is undertaken at the conclusion of each block or project. Projects are assessed by the assignment of marks to various project deliverables. The percentages assigned to deliverables may vary between projects.

Project deliverables may include Research, Conceptual development of ideas, Design Development/methodology, Prototyping, final design implementation. A percentage mark is assigned for each deliverable, adding to a total a total of 100%. Each project is assigned a percentage of the overall module mark dependent on project length.

Repeat Assessments

On failure of the module, the student will be issued with a repeat project/projects that will satisfy the module learning outcomes.

Indicative Syllabus

Photoshop

Creation of custom made imagery that will be incorporated into students project work. Understand and appreciate the differences between creating images for print and digital presentation. Appreciate the use of colour and composition to create imagery. Understand layers, palettes and basic tool functionality.
