Description

To introduce the student to a range of materials and production methods for both high quantity manufacture and one off prototype production. In terms of theory, specification and practical industrial processes.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

To understand principal production methods and their influence on the design process.

2.

Discuss the merits and de-merits of a range of materials and material specification of parts.

3.

To demonstrate a practical knowledge of modelling materials, techniques and equipment.

4.

To use prototype models as influence and experiment in the design concept generation and development stage.

5.

Have the ability to complete the design process by specifying materials and production processes.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be taught between the workshop and classroom. Classroom will be used to cover theory of methods, process and material selection, and the the workshop will be the utilised in the execution of process

Module Assessment Strategies

Project assessment and exam

Repeat Assessments

On failing the module, the learner will be required to complete a project based repeat assessment.

A Project brief will be issued in which the varying details of the project will be set out and the

project will be submitted to the lecturer or the exams office.
